Water Science

22nd September 2012.
Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishath, Dubai chapter, organised an educational trip to Romana water plant, located in Dubai Investments Park. I have been to other factories, but never to a water plant. As I travelled with other friends, I wondered about what  I'll see. When at Romana water plant, I was excited as ever. Once in, I began observing everything with anticipation. I was entranced to see the different steps involved in water purification. My most enjoyed part was when they showed us  the production of water cups. Seeing and hearing all about purification made me understand that Romana, was a health conscious company. To think of all these steps involved to keep hygiene!

This visit helped me to understand the process involved in the change of desalinated DEWA water to bottled water and various water treatment methods used. After the visit I explained the process to my family members and friends. They were awestruck to know that there was no human touch from collecting water till bottling. This is real hygiene. I thank Gaffoor uncle and the other members of Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishath for arranging such an informative trip through the wonders of water purification. I met many new friends too.

Why mosquitoes bites us

Thousands of years ago, Mosquitoes were human beings best friends. At that time their food was nectar and other liquid like juice from fruits. So once in a village, there lived man named Bruto. He had one mosquito as his pet. One day, the mosquito went in search of food. Suddenly, she saw a sage and a small girl lying besides him. The mosquito went to them and asked, “What happened guru?”The sage replied sobbing, “My daughter ‘Shivalanga’ is going to die because of a special type of disease. If I make a potion which contains 2-3 drops of a special type of blood, she would come back to life. Won’t you help us?” The mosquito felt pity on him. She agreed. But first she went to her master, Bruto. The mosquito narrated everything to her master. Bruto became happy and said, “My friend, you are a good mosquito, so take my blood first.” The mosquito bit her master’s finger and took 2-3 drops of blood. But it was not the special blood. She started taking blood from others. Her friends, the mosquitoes, also helped her in taking blood from people, but couldn’t get the special blood. By the time, the daughter died and in the sadness of losing his only daughter, the sage died too. Even when they heard about this, the mosquitoes still continued their mission. Slowly, the mosquitoes liked the taste of blood. And now, blood is their food!

The Rabbit and the Grasshopper

Once, in a jungle, there lived a rabbit a grasshopper. They are good friends. One day, they were walking together, hungry. All of a sudden, they saw a hut and palace. The rabbit said “I will go to the palace.” The grasshopper said “and I will go to the hut.” Although the rabbit went to the palace, he was unhappy.Because the people in the palace are not giving him enough food and not letting him to talk and play with the children and the grasshopper was also unhappy because the people living in hut is putting him out of the hut fearing if she will eat up all the food. One day, they made a narrow escape and they met each other. The rabbit asked the grasshopper “how are you? Happy living in the hut?” “How could I say? They are putting me out of the hut. That’s ok how are you living in the palace? The grasshopper asked. “Like you only. They are not giving me enough food and not letting me to talk and play with the children. The rabbit replied. “I know one idea!” said the grasshopper. "You go to the hut and I will go to the palace.” Said the grasshopper. The rabbit agreed. As the rabbit went to the hut he became happy because people living in the hut is taking good care of him and the grasshopper was also happy because he can have good food by hiding in the kitchen as the kitchen was green in color.

Flowers

Flowers teach us how to smile,
Flowers teach us how to dance,
Flowers teach us how to play
And
Flowers teach us the colors of life.
Flowers are the angels of heaven
And
The happiness of life.
Flowers turn to butterflies,
In our hearts
And
They are wonders in a baby’s mind.

Smiles

When you look up into the blue sky,

You will find a great big smile through the clouds.

Smiles are what fill us with delight.

Smiles are what provide us friends.

Smiles are what provide us a smile,

After a sulking face.

Smiles are the flowers of heaven.

Smiles can wake us up from a tragedy.

Even a baby who cries will smile,

If we smile at him.

Smiles are the gems of life.

Changathikkoottam - 2010

I would like to share my experience about an Extra Ordinary day in my life!
Changathikkoottam was an event organized by Friends of Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishath in Dubai. This is the second time I got a chance to participate in Changathikkoottam. I was very excited the day before itself. We reached on time to Gulf Model School,Dubai - the venue of Changathikkoottam 2010.

There were about One Hundred or more students for the programme. The day started with "Naadan Paattu" about Earthworm, Trees and Birds. An uncle dressed like a Farmer explained the relation between Earth & Man. After sometime we were taken to a room called 'Saasthramoola'. There were Photos and small writeups about famous Astronomers, Scientists and Mathematicians like Bhaskara, Aryabhatta and many more.. There were a number of Group leaders/co-ordinators who were teaching us songs, stories and explaining about Scientists and many more informations. The real excitement started then..I was selected for participating in News paper project. I was taken into another room, there I met some other kids, who were also chosen for the same project. We were divided into two teams. I was the News Editor for of our team. We have decided a name for our News paper, it was "Changathi news" ! We had a great time searching for news. Initially we haven't got any news and it was short time, we need to finish the project by 4pm. We, our team members sat together and prepared an article about Changathikkoottam 2010 and collected some more information by interviewing and asking for comments about the programme. At last all the information we collected were edited, typed and printed and pasted on a Yellow chart paper with great photos taken by our press photographer Sree.
(Sree,Arjun,Ajna,Gopika and Snehaa)

4PM.. all parents and other visitors gathered at the large hall, where the meeting was planned. We took our project and moved to the hall. Our News Paper displayed there, and our team was invited to the stage followed by next team. We were introduced to everyone, and our effort was appreciated by all. It was a precious moment! Later Famous Malayalam poet Kavalam Narayana Panicker, chief guest came to the stage. He talked nicely about the importance of Biological values and it's relation with human. He sang a song for kids and asked the kids to follow. He advised us to love the soil like our mother. After that also there were a number of traditional songs, those uncles who were with us since morning till the end were making sure the participation of each and every kid while singing.

There were lot of songs, story telling and other games when we were busy with our News Paper project. It was another new experience for me, I am sure all these will help me in my future, now I also feel to love soil, trees, birds and yes our earth. Thanks to all uncles who made the day worth, thanks to Gaffoor uncle who informed and invited me for the programme.

I am waiting for the next Changathikkoottam.
